This Tuesday we had our first ever Garden Club Farmers Market. We harvested spring onions, bok choy, parsley and sunflowers and sold them for a gold coin donation. It was such a success that we've decided to continue each Tuesday, until the end of term 4. Come along from 8:45-9:15am and get yourself some of the freshest produce in the Revesby area.
This blog post will be the last for the year. It concludes a wonderful year working together in the garden with some awesome little green thumbs. We have worked together to create a thriving garden and I have loved every minute of it. We now have a new garden bed along the back fence which has become our 'mini orchard' complete with apple and orange tree. I can't wait to see the students start harvesting the fruit that will grow next year. Thank you to all the parents, teachers and students who have supported us. Signing off for 2016, Mrs Mills

This Tuesday morning the Garden Club replaced spades with knives and got to work preparing home-made garlic bread to sell at afternoon tea. There was more than enough parsley in the garden bed, so the team got busy chopping and spreading the garlic butter over some fresh bread sticks. It turned out to be a huge success and we sold out within 10 minutes flat! It was a success for the environment too as we only needed 6 aluminium trays to heat up the garlic bread, which was then handed out in brown paper bags. The children were then asked to compost their bags when finished.
We raised enough money to buy some mulch and fertiliser to keep our soil in top condition, with enough left over for some seeds for next season's crop.....any suggestions? Term 4 is here already and we arrived back to Garden Club greeted by some towering sun flowers and ruby red strawberries. This week we spent our time weeding and topping up the mulch, as well as fertilising our plants with some worm wee fertiliser. We have harvested all our pees and will prepare the new garden bed for some cherry tomatoes ready for summer time. Fun times ahead. Thanks for reading! Happy gardening.
This morning, in preparation for the school holidays, the Garden Club were busy harvesting any vegetables that were ripe and ready. This included some very cool carrots that were pulled out of the ground and made us all laugh with their unique shapes and sizes! The students also watered the worm farm and turned the compost so the garden will survive without us for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure how many carrots will make it to the dinner table, as some children were already munching on them for breakfast!
How great that veggies we grew here at school have ended up in yummy stir fry's at home! I have had mouth watering reports of meals made using our Chinese spinach! I think I'll have to pinch a few myself!
Every good garden need worms and The Garden Club decided it was time our RSPS Garden Club had worms too! We needed fertaliser for our garden, however store bought fertalisers can be expensive and laden with chemicals. With a worm farm, we would be able to recycle our garden scraps, and in return the worms could produce organic fertaliser for our veggies. Before purchasing one, Mrs Mills called Bunning's to ask if they could help us out. Rochelle from the Bankstown Bunning's came and assembled the farm with the garden club kids and showed them how to care for our new worms!
Team effort: Cleaning out the garden and preparing for our winter crop.
